Fall Colors and Galisteo 22nd Annual Studio Tour - 2009

Image
It was so much fun taking a country drive and heading to the small village of Galisteo last weekend. The weather unlike today was gorgeous. This morning it snowed and then turned very cold and damp. The cottonwood trees were at their peak of changing to gold. The art in this small village is incredible. There were 36 artist showing their work and there was all different mediums of art. I bought a retablo of San Pasqual from artist, Catherine Ferguson. I have it hanging in the kitchen at The Bobcat Inn. This artist had even painted her propane tank with ravens and a dark New Mexico blue sky background. Another well known artist , Priscilla Hoback had murals, monotypes and pottery sculptures. There are several other art studio tours happening this fall. La Cienega hosts theirs after Thanksgiving and Dixon will host theirs on November 7 & 8th. It is a great way to meet the artist and contribute to your local economy while getting some fresh air. The Bobcat Inn

Visit Sagebrush Alpacas

There is this wonderful Alpaca ranch near The Bobcat Inn in Santa Fe New Mexico. Mary MacGyver is the owner and she gives tours on Thursdays from 1:30-4:00PM and Sundays from 1:30-4:00PM or you can call 505 470-4629 . I recently visited their ranch and immediately fell in love. Alpacas are very special animals and are very intelligent. They are the only animal native to the Americas. There is also a ranch store with beautiful woven sweaters and other fiber textiles. Outstanding In The Field

Outstanding in the Field, a farm to table event will take place this Sunday, October 4th, 2009 at 3:00PM in Galisteo , New Mexico. Tim Willms ,farmer and owner of the Talus Wind Ranch is co-hosting the event with David Sellers , chef and owner of Amavi Restaurant in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Unfortunately, the event is sold out. Jim Denevan founded the Outstanding in the Field events in Santa Cruz California in 1999. He wanted to bring awareness to small organic farms. People have loved this event and now it is a national event. Their website shows all of the events and places that it occurs. I am hoping that they will do this again next year and I will buy my ticket early. A portion of the money is benefiting Kitchen Angels of Santa Fe The Bobcat Inn still has very limited availability for Oct. 3rd & 4th. We are the closest bed and breakfast to the event. Great Dining Near the Bobcat Inn, NM

Third in our Series about our favorite restaurants: Harry's Roadhouse is probably the favorite of the Bobcat Inn guests. Their motto is A Square Meal Every Time. They have a very eclectic menu with turkey enchiladas being my favorite. I love their desserts and when the soft shell crab is in season it it the best. They have a great patio with lots of hollyhocks and delphiniums. The menu is very reasonable and they do have a liquor license. There parking lot is always full but you don't usually have to wait to long to get in. They do not take reservations unless you have a large party.

Good Food in Santa Fe, New Mexico

The second in our blog series on restaurants near our inn  is The Steaksmith Restauran t  also located right down the road on the Old Las Vegas Hwy at El Gancho Fitness Center. The Steaksmith was originally located in the St Francis Hotel downtown many years ago. When I was a little girl and lived in Texas we used to come to Santa Fe and eat at The Steaksmith and order the Alaskan King Crab. I have very fond memories. It is probably my most favorite comfort food restaurant in Santa Fe. It is always consistant and has very good steaks and seafood. They also have a creative bar menu that you won't get bored with. The service is outstanding. You don't have to pay extra for your salad and baked potato with your entree here. The petite fillet and the wild caught salmon are two of my favorite entrees. I also love the spinach cheese balls with hollandaise sauce and Jeannie shrimp. This is a great family restaurant when you want a nice dinner that is not pretentious. It is moderatel

Restaurants Near The Bobcat Inn Bed and Breakfast

We're going to write a series of blogs about the Restaurants Near the Bobcat. This is the first: The Bobcat Bite is located right next door to our inn. The Bite is known for their green chile cheeseburgers and home fries. It has been an institution since the 1950's. They were featured on Hamburgers America. In my opinion the green chile cheeseburger is really that good. I always split one with my daughter since they are huge. They will cook it how you like it and they grind their meat fresh daily. The owners Bonnie and John are also the nicest people you would ever meet. I have tried other things there but always come back to the burger.

We're blogging!

Welcome to the Bobcat Inn's Blog. We will be updating this periodically and posting pictures of some of the goings on at the Inn.
